 Post subject: Major Features Required for Version 1.0

This is a list of all the major features that need to be completed before the official launch of Mutant Factions v1.0. This launch will be huge - an all out effort that may take months of non-stop advertising until we reach critical mass. I don't want to do any more temporary advertising sprees. This is an all or nothing push to build Mutant Faction's community once and for all and it must succeed! This is a list of everything that NEEDS to be done to make the launch a success. This is NOT a list of everything that needs to be done to 100% complete the game. I plan on working on Mutant Factions for many more years after this launch, but it's not necessary to wait until the game is 100% complete before launching it. Many successful games are developed for years after their release, and I intend for Mutant Factions to be one of them!

This list is a work in progress. If you have any ideas of features that are absolutely necessary then please post them with reasons why you think they should be done before the release of v1.0. On the flip side, if you see anything in the list that you believe can wait until after the release then please mention that too. Remember the larger this list, the longer we have to wait until the game's community is exploding with players!

I've got question about "official maps"
For example, you tommorow create a list of them and take them to this "Official maps".
After that is a chance to add some maps to this list?

Yes, there is in fact a list of official maps. This list has recently been updated to include four of our community members maps:
Core, Corrumpo, Contaminant and STMResidence

So if you just try hard enough, you map will eventually become official. Note that for a map to become official it must meet a lot of quality standards that will be even higher with the upcoming version (as it needs to include decals).

Yup, so if anyone makes a good quality fun map then I'll include it in the game download. However if they make a GREAT map that meets the general "direction" that I want to take the game, then I'll make it official. All it really means is that official maps will show up in the map list by default and can be selected easily with the OFFICIAL MAPS button. But right now if you want to make an official map you need it to be big. Before v1.0 comes out I'll slowly be fading out my smaller maps and replacing them with bigger, newer maps. It's all about giving a good first impression to newbies. Wide, vehicle friendly, immersive maps that feel epic and awesome, like GTA2 or Batlefield.

I want ramps that don't require smoothing, So I can attach small ramps to the sides of, say.. towers or pillars or something, that would give it a sort of Futuristic blocky look without having to have another block a bit higher than it and smoothing put to both of them.

Contrary to the idea of advancing the map editor only after version 1, I'd like the map editor upgrades earlier on. Frankly, there's a lot of limitations on what we can do for maps at the moment.

* No diagonal walls.
* Textures strictly limited to mapTextures
* No ability to mix and match textures without having to exit the editor and making your own (which is not only time-consuming, but a big waste of space and file size when you're trying to paint tiles on the map) which greatly reduces texture ability (though decals could help mitigate this somewhat)
* No teleport/trampoline points (!)
* Insufficient collision properties (only bullet passes/blocks, only cars pass/blocked, only mutant players pass/blocked, even "has a ceiling" to make a low area protected from shots from high locations)

Good maps leave a good impression on the game too.

Glad to have you helping out! If your Vietnamese translation brings in more players then the community will be very thankful :D

What you might want to do though is do a quick test to make sure that the Vietnamese unicode characters (encoded in UTF-8) display correctly in Subvein. I think they will, but it's worth testing beforehand anyway.

Yup, but what I'm saying is to test it before you translate the entire file. Just change the PLAYER button for example and make sure it shows nicely ingame before doing the rest :)

Ben, just out of curiosity I noticed "menu music" up there on the to-do list.
What kind of music do you reckon you'd be looking for? I play with a lot of bands with pro-quality recorded music and I may know some people that could help out if you'd like.

My main issue with music is I kinda want to compose it myself. Or at least try to before asking someone else to do it. I've done all the dev for Subvein so far and I'd like to keep it that way. It's my baby afterall ;)
